Well I think anyone can get better when it comes to writing if your compassionate about it.
Since I was a little girl I always had a passion for writing. I loved to keep journals, diaries and even writing poetry. For me writing is my way of expressing myself whether I'm happy, sad, angry, or even when I'm bored. I've been through so many things throughout my life so writing helps me cope. Once I start to write I lose all control and sometimes I can go on for hours. I also love to write to store memories. So that one day I can go back to it and read exactly how I felt at the time and see how much has changed since the date I wrote it.
I learned that becoming a good writer doesn't happen over night. With each paper you write you'll start to notice the littlest things that you didn't notice before and that is part of growing into a better writer. I don't really like to share my work with just anybody. Hopefully one day I can. I like to write for personal use as of now but in the future I'd like to be able to stand in front of a room full of people and read aloud with confidence. That's one of my downfalls as a writer I guess because I should be able to have people wanting to read more of my materials.
I also think that reading different types of books helps to become a better writer. I enjoy trying to understand someone else's views on different topics, cultures and values. Reading also helps with learning to understand how to put different words together. However, if I'm not familiar with certain words I look them up online so I can learn the meaning of them.
Dictionaries are very resourceful in writing. There are thousandths of words to learn with many different meanings so it can help with finding subjects to write about.
Six Strategies to becoming a better writer:
1:
Privacy.
I have to be in a quiet and comfortable place without any distraction. If there is television, noise, people talking etc.. I become irritable and it's hard for me to focus. I like to be relaxed and alone while I'm writing.
2:
Consistency.
Even if its just for an hour each day. The more you write the better you'll get.. Get yourself used to writing. Be open-minded and don't think about it to much. If your trying to hard to find a topic or bigger words it can be very time and energy consuming and before you know it you'll be frustrated and ready to give up.
3:
Confidence.
I'm learning that this is very important when it comes to being a "good writer'. Although this is one of my weak spots.
Sometimes I began to read some of my poems or short stories to people but I get nervous and make up excuses on why I'm not ready to share my stuff and I decide against it.
4:
Read.
Reading is one of the key factors on becoming a better writer. It creates new ideas an allows you to think about things in a different view. As i mentioned before, the dictionary is the ultimate resource for learning new words and there synonyms and antonyms.
5: Be open-minded.
Allow others to give you an opinion without getting offended or defensive. Constructive criticism is actually in your favor if your open to it. Listen to those who are more experienced than you because the smallest tip can make the biggest difference and make you that much better at writing.
6: Creativity.
Be creative and original. Its okay to get ideas from someone but always add your own touch. It's okay to be different. Besides you'll feel better about your work knowing that you came up with it on your own. Your style and effort reflects in your writing. Even if it isn't great at first. Play around with different things to grow an image of what you like to write about.
